Supporting UK armed forces by upgrading satellite communications

We are pleased to announce the completion of a large fibre optic installation in support of the UK armed forces sat comm networks.

Due to our long standing relationship with the various agencies working on the SKYNET 5 PFI Purple Communications was selected as the prime fibre optic contractor to be part of a large upgrade to the UK's military communications network.

This project involved us working in partnership with EADS Astrium, Paradigm Communications and Serco to provide a new satellite receiving dish and associated equipment at a ground station in Wiltshire.

Our role was to provide all the fibre optic connectivity between the new dish and the purpose built data centre, we supplied and installed a mixture of multimode and singlemode fibre with LC and FC/APC patch panels.

We then set about terminating over 1000 fibre optic ends and providing certification using power loss and OTDR testing.
