Skynet 5 will deliver a comprehensive range of services that include voice and data communication at all levels of protective marking, and is at the heart of the UK MOD's drive towards a Network Enabled Capability (NEC).

As part of the team, Serco Group ("Serco") will play an important role in this key government programme. The contract is worth around £2 billion over fifteen years to the team as a whole, and in the region of £220 million to Serco.

Purple Communications Ltd have been selected by Serco to be their preferred cabling installer in support of the SKYNET5 contract.

We have been involved with various projects for Serco, involving secure fibre optic links and copper networks at their main sites in Hampshire and Wiltshire. Working in these environments has presented Purple Comms with some interesting and challenging projects.

“We are working in a secure environment and therefore we have to be constantly thinking about security implications whilst working on site, we provide Serco with M.o.D security cleared engineers with a good understanding of the rules governing installations including JSP480/440. Our engineers are often working in live cabinets which are providing mission critical communications to U.K. armed forces out in theatre such as Afghanistan and Iraq, this presents its own problems and requires a methodical approach to our work that we undertake”

Jonathan Dorrington - Director

Purple Communications was selected to carry out a network upgrade to their largest care homes in the South East. This involved conducting a site survey of the existing network and then presenting our results in the form of a proposal and recommendations.

We provide the home with an extensive Cat5e network, including supplying and installing wall mounted cabinets.

“Working in an elderly care home we had to take into account the needs of the residents and staff whilst installation work was carried out, we liaised with the home manager on a daily basis so we could minimize the impact on the operation of the home”

Paul Rogers – Senior Engineer

Case Study 3

Southern Medical Ltd

“Southern Medical is a leading supplier to the Health Care Industry, We are a One-stop shop for medical, janitorial and equipment supplied to the Care Home sector”

Southern Medical have thrived during this economic down turn and as such was expanding into new premises. Purple Communications was invited to tender to install the necessary networking and electrical infrastructure required in their new building in Andover.

After being successful in securing the contract we established in conjunction with their I.T. department a network design. The requirement was for Cat5e structured cabling and various power outlets. We proceeded to install Containment and cabling for the data and the power, we installed new consumer boards for the increase in power requirements. And we also supplied and installed a 42U Server cabinet.

“We were working to a strict project plan as our installation was crucial to the timing of other contractors and the pending office relocation, we worked with the client and remained flexible with our schedule of works and as a result completed within the specified timescale”

Mark Agius – Site Manager
